How we are raised as children will set the foundation on how we live for the rest of our lives. This is true for all aspects of life, including business, dating, spirituality and more. There is an old proverb that says, “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” But does that mean our future is already predetermined by our upbringing? Are we trapped – good or bad – by how we were brought up? Absolutely not!

Our Creator has made the potential of the human mind into one of the most powerful forces in the world. Your mind has the ability to empower you to become anything that you want to be, regardless of your past experiences or socioeconomic background. This is true regardless of how your parents raised you.

My parents taught me to work hard and this has helped me succeed in life and business. However, not everybody has had the same experience. You may not have had an ideal family situation with perhaps one or both parents being absent.

On the other hand, maybe your parents took care of everything for you and you never really had to work hard, so you never really learned how to do hard work. Many people do not realize that having an easy life growing up can actually leave them missing many life skills.

However, that is all in the past and you should understand that none of this has to dictate your present and does not necessarily determine your future. Right now is the ideal time to take charge of your life. Did you grow up in poverty? Are you still impoverished? Finding a way out of poverty begins with changing your mind state and identifying what beliefs and thoughts that you have that are keeping you from succeeding. This will allow you to identify exactly what it is you need to do.

Do you have a dead-end job? Figure out what it takes to get the job that provides you with the opportunity you deserve. This could mean more training, education, or skill development. Whatever it is, be ready to do what is necessary. Or better yet, go into business for yourself and create your own job and be your own boss.

You get the picture. You can choose. You can become. But remember that time waits for nobody. You need to take action now. You do not want to be sitting where you are ten years from now, realizing that a whole decade has passed you by and you did not have the courage to really go for whatever it is you want out of life.

Basically, what I am saying is that things will not happen for you automatically. The chances of you succeeding without any effort is almost zero. But, if you have the right mindset and have complete and honest awareness of your situation, you will have taken the first step towards actually achieving your goals.

Success is never an accident.
