Life will usually not automatically provide you with everything you desire without you having to do something. Nothing is free in life, even if it does not cost any money. In order to achieve your life and business goals you will usually have to give up or sacrifice something. Although this might sound like bad news, in fact, it is actually good news. What this means is that you have a say in your life and how it will unfold.

Everything depends on how you perceive your situation. If you maintain an attitude of “well, this is how it is” you will never even consider that there could be ways in which you can change your situation for the better. This could result in complacency which causes you to stay in your dead-end job or forever procrastinate on getting started on your business idea.

Understand that you can avoid this pitfall by simply a change in attitude from “well, this is how it is” to “this is how it will be.” But, in order to get to “how it will be” you need to understand “how it is” as of now. Take an inventory of your life and your usual daily activities. What do you do from the time you wake up and the time you go to sleep?

Once you have a good idea of your usual routine, determine what your true life and business goals are. This could mean having enough resources to retire early or starting a successful enterprise. Whatever your goals are, the next step would be to figure out what is needed to happen in order to make your goals a reality.

When you are clear about what it takes to reach your goals, you should go back and look at how you have been living your life and what you usually do each day. Are you currently doing the things you need to achieve these goals? Most likely you are not doing these things and if this is the case you should consider what it is you need to give up in order to start achieving your goals.

Usually, people think the problem is one of not having enough time, but in reality, there is plenty of time throughout each day. The real issue is that you have been spending your time on activities that have nothing to do with reaching your goals. It is essential that you decide what activities you are willing to give up in order to make time for what you need to do to reach your goals.

This could mean giving up hanging out with your friends multiple times per week. Perhaps just seeing them once per week or less is sufficient. It could mean having to sleep an hour or two less per day. You may have to let go of a particular hobby that you enjoy, at least temporarily. Whatever it is that is necessary, ask yourself if your goals are worth this sacrifice.

Most people want success but are unwilling to make any sacrifices for it. When you are ready to change the things in your life that block you from thriving, you will be ready for true success.

Success is never an accident.
