The idea of luck suggests that there is no such thing as cause and effect, as if things just happen for no reason at all. However, the reality is that whatever situations you find yourself in throughout your life, you have the power to change your circumstances if they are not what you desire. This is true of just about everything in life, including business.

I don’t believe in luck. While growing up my parents taught me the value of hard work and they also encouraged me to always be prepared. Even as a young child I knew I would someday start a successful business even though I had no idea how I would do that. But I knew what my goal was, and I did what it took to achieve this goal.

This means I worked hard to learn what I needed to know and did what I needed to do to be able to recognize opportunity when it came knocking on my door. Knowledge is key so never stop learning about yourself and the world around you. Remain curious and excited for the mysteries that life will bring you. If you run into roadblocks and challenges, do not give up. These are opportunities for learning if you are aware enough.

It really is about investing in yourself and your dream. Understand that you and your goals are worth the time and energy required. Always be continually learning and preparing for the day that the opportunity you have been waiting for actually arrives. If you are of the mindset that your goals are too hard and that you might as well not even try, then I can guarantee you that when the opportunity comes you will not even be aware that it has materialized. Your chance at success will pass you by over and over again and you won’t even realize it until many years later. By then it will be too late.

The thing with opportunities, especially in business, is that the window to capitalize does not last forever. You have to be prepared to act immediately. This is what makes many business leaders so successful. They have been living and breathing their passion for whatever business it is they are involved in. They have been continually learning with great passion and consistency. When opportunity showed up, this preparation allowed them to immediately recognize what to do.

Although from the outside it may seem like just luck, in reality the world’s most successful entrepreneurs had already been preparing for the right time. What seems like a decision made at a moment’s notice is likely the product of years and years of learning and developing the right mindset to execute. However, the twist is that you never know when this opportunity will present itself. All you can really know is that when it does arise you will have to be ready to do what it takes to act on opportunity.

There is no such thing as luck. You do not need a four-leaf clover, but you do need the willingness to work hard, learn and prepare.

Success is never an accident.
