Nobody wants to lose, especially when doing business. However, just like life, in business things will not always go your way every single time. You will find that some projects will not work out and that you will fail to meet your objectives. There will be missed opportunities that you could have taken advantage of if you had seen or done things differently. You may even end up procrastinating on certain goals and end up not even getting started at all.
For sure these are not desirable results when doing business. You may even consider these to be failures. But, for just a second, I want you to reconsider this point of view. Is there something to be learned from these undesirable experiences? Can you potentially turn your defeat and failure into a valuable lesson and an opportunity to improve? Just a slight adjustment in your perception can literally change the whole world.
You may see these shortcomings as obstacles keeping you from reaching your goals and achieving the level of success that you desire. Although this may, from a short-term view, have some truth to it, in all reality, it really is completely up to you. Now, try to look at these same obstacles as challenges that can be conquered and overcome.
Looking at things this way will motivate you to learn from your previous mistakes and reanalyze how you have been doing things. You will, instead of being upset, feel grateful for the opportunity to improve yourself and your business.
This can come in the form of perhaps learning better advertising strategies after a certain strategy had failed you. Or maybe you will learn how to choose better employees after being disappointed by an employee you had to let go. On the other hand, turning defeat into a valuable lesson can mean improving your organizational skills after being disorganized has led to big headaches. There are countless examples of instances where what seemed to be a failure can become a great opportunity.
The concepts of “defeat” and “failure” really only exist within your own mind. They are simply your opinion on what happened and are not some type of undeniable and unchangeable truth. If you change how your mind perceives the world, you can change the world around you. What this means is that you empower yourself to change the circumstances that surround you in order to solve problems which you previously had given up on.
Throughout my own personal development journey, I have found that the root of everything good and everything bad begins within your own mind. They say that the human mind is the real battlefield in life. How you navigate this battlefield can make the difference in you being able to achieve your goals or not. So, make sure to traverse this arena with caution and awareness.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago (defeat). The second-best time is now (win).
Success is never an accident.
